Turkmenistan and the UN discussed cooperation priorities for 2026-2030

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov took part in the meeting of the UN Country Team in Turkmenistan, which was held via videoconference. The meeting was also attended by the heads of UN agencies in Turkmenistan and regional structures of the organization, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The central topics of discussion were Turkmenistan's national priorities for the new cycle of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030, as well as the study of mechanisms to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan presented the key areas of strategic partnership with the UN, including peace and security issues, the socio-economic sphere, the implementation of the SDGs, the development of transport and energy, and the fight against climate change.

Particular attention was paid to the work of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council, established in 2024, which coordinates the implementation of national programs and international initiatives of the country together with the UN in the political and socio-economic spheres.

The parties exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation with specialized UN structures in the field of sustainable development, transport, climate change and environmental protection. Humanitarian aspects were separately considered, including respect for human rights, preservation of cultural heritage, and the introduction of best practices in education and healthcare.

UN representatives informed about current joint activities with the government of Turkmenistan and presented proposals for the further development of partnership.

Following the meeting, a schedule of upcoming meetings and joint events was approved.
