According to a new sociological study, the results of which were published by The Guardian newspaper, 46% of young Britons aged 16 to 21 expressed a desire to spend their youth in a world where the Internet does not exist, writes gazeta.ru.
About 70% of respondents in this age group report a worsening of their emotional state after time spent on social networks. Half of those surveyed support the idea of introducing a “digital curfew” that would restrict access to certain applications and Internet resources after 10 p.m.
One in four survey respondents (25%) admitted to spending more than four hours a day on social media, while 42% of young people reported regularly misleading their parents or guardians about their online activity.
Of particular concern is the fact that 27% of respondents create completely different images online that do not correspond to their real personality. 40% of respondents have anonymous accounts used for hidden activities.
The research comes as the UK government debates possible measures to make it mandatory to restrict access to some social media platforms at certain times of the day.
