In Brussels, a meeting was held between the Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov and the Director General of the General Directorate for Customs and Excise Affairs of Belgium Christian Vandervaeren. The parties held a constructive dialogue, discussing the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the customs sphere, the press service of the Turkmen diplomatic mission reported to Turkmenportal.
The key point of the negotiations was Turkmenistan's initiative to recognize the national Training Center of the State Customs Service as a Regional Training Center of the World Customs Organization. The Belgian side supported this idea and expressed its readiness to assist in its promotion at the international level.
The meeting participants paid special attention to the exchange of experience, digitalization of customs procedures and professional training of specialists. The Turkmen side showed interest in modern approaches applied in the port of Antwerp, one of the largest logistics hubs in Europe. The ambassador noted that advanced models of management, electronic declaration and control can be useful for the development of the Turkmenbashy International Seaport.
Following the talks, representatives of both countries agreed to develop direct contacts between relevant departments and support joint initiatives in the area of customs administration, which will contribute to strengthening trade and economic relations between Turkmenistan and Belgium.
